OwlCrate Giveaway!

Books/Writing, Giveaways 8

owlcrate giveaway

Sssshhh…we’re going to pretend that it’s still July, because that’s when this June OwlCrate giveaway was supposed to happen! July just FLEW by me and yesterday I thought, “OMG, I still haven’t posted that…” and then I got sleepy and forgot. July just basically kicked my ass. I didn’t finish a single book, I don’t think…maybe a non-fiction one on gardening. YIKES!! There just haven’t been enough hours in the day! Hoping to change that with August…and nothing pumps me up more than other people getting excited about books, and I know one of the best ways to get people excited is to give them books and book stuff! Anyway, so here we go. 😀

owlcrate giveaway

This is the June OwlCrate box, themed Make it Out Alive (you can see it on the Past Boxes page). Contest is open from now until Friday, August 11th, at midnight CST! Thank you all for following, and commenting, and sharing – I will be back with more reviews and fun bookish stuffs soon!

Riddle’s Tea Shoppe Review and Giveaway!

Giveaways, Reviews 11

Today I’m so excited to be giving you this Riddle’s Tea Shoppe Review – and, thanks to the very generous Aun-Juli Riddle, also bringing you a tea giveaway (at the bottom of this post). You might have seen the lovely little box of Riddle’s tea that was in my November OwlCrate review. I was so taken with both the adorable tin and the tea, that I poked around online and found both her Etsy shop (which has lots of other cool stuff as well as tea), and her Adagio Teas page, which has TONS of different tea blends. I immediately ordered 3 of the sampler tins…I couldn’t resist the artwork AND the fact that she had teas inspired by some of my all time favorite books – the Lord of the Rings!

Disclaimer: These were not supplied by Riddle’s, I bought them myself and just had to share! Also, I’m far from being any kind of professional or even a very experienced tea drinker, so excuse my lack of proper terminology. Hehe.

First, the Wonderland Elixir tea that came in the OwlCrate box. It came in the most bee-yoo-ti-ful tin, and in the most adorable little pyramid tea bags (I’d never seen anything like them!). It looks like it’s only available in loose leaf from Adagio now.

See? Am I the only person who had never seen these amazing bags? I love how they have enough room for full tea leaves to open, plus the mesh just feels delightful when you pick them up.

I can’t have enough pictures of this tin, either. And you can see the description of the Wonderland elixir right there on the box!

This is a very tasty, mildly aromatic blend with predominant flavor of peach and cinnamon. The others you can smell or taste slightly but not quite as much. It’s decaf, so you can drink it all day long if you’re sensitive to caffeine!

Next up is the Elevenses tea, first of my LotR obsession-inspired buys. Haha. This one is:

blended with white tea, oolong tea, black tea, blueberries, natural blueberry flavor, natural vanilla flavor, natural creme flavor

I’m obsessed with these little tins, too. They’re smaller but just as adorable as the OwlCrate one. I’ve thought of 100 different things to use them for when they’re empty!

I don’t really taste blueberry in this one! There’s a faint scent of it, but it doesn’t seem to affect the taste much. It’s an extremely smooth, mild tea blend. The prominent flavor to me is vanilla, but even that doesn’t over power the actual tea taste. Color is a deep golden amber. It’s mild enough to not really need a sweetener (but I add a little honey anyway…I like the flavor even a little honey adds). My husband – who until now was a strictly Southern sweet tea drinker – loves this blend and asks for it almost daily. My little loose-leaf tea steeper is getting quite a workout!

Watching tea leaves unfurl and expand is almost hypnotic.

Next is the Shieldmaiden Tea. Eowyn is probably my all-time favorite female character, or at least favorite fantasy character, so naturally I had to try this one.

blended with black tea, white peony, natural caramel flavor, ginger root, natural ginger flavor

I also love seeing how the different blends look. 😀

It has a very distinct ginger scent and flavor. I couldn’t drink it without honey, too much of a bite. Definitely a TOTALLY different tea than the Elevenses. I think this one is best to drink in the morning, very energizing – and I don’t just mean the caffeine!

Last but far from least is the Elven Nectar blend. The description is what really pulled me to this tea.

blended with black tea, apple pieces, natural peach flavor, natural apricot flavor, natural caramel flavor, marigold flowers, apricots

I love fruit, and I love caramel. Surely it couldn’t go wrong! This one is my favorite of the 4 teas here. It smells absolutely divine. I am in love with the scent of peach combined with caramel and if it came in a perfume I would TOTALLY wear it. The taste is not as strong as the smell, and it’s a very quiet, calm blend despite apparently having a high level of caffeine listed. I’ve had it before bed several times and never had problems sleeping, but I also drink really strong coffee.

Aun-Juli has SO MANY MORE blends!! I just discovered she has a few Outlander inspired blends while I was writing this post…I might need an intervention.

ANYWAY, she has very graciously agreed to sponsor a giveaway for this post! Open INTERNATIONAL (yay!), she’s offering a sample of a Hogwarts house inspired blend (can you guess mine??) for the lucky winner. Enter in the widget below and good luck!

About the Book

Taran Wird holds the unique ability to conjure fire and lightning. She is mated to Gemini, Second in Command to the Squaw Valley Pack of the Lake Tahoe Region, and the sole werewolf to possess the ability to split into two wolves. And although they are mates, Taran’s insecurities have driven them apart.

Devastated by an injury that left her with a zombie-like limb, Taran struggles to regain command over her magic. But when her arm and her power turn against her, lashing out on those she most loves, she knows she can no longer carry this burden alone. Not that she likes the alternative.

The only way to regain control of her magic is to align and learn from the local coven of witches―the very ones who sought to banish her when she and her three unique sisters first moved to the mystical region. But although Taran is trying, the teachings don’t come easy, and the tasks leave her weak and emotionally shattered.

Yet Taran must learn and learn fast. Time is running out. The fire she once mastered so easily has become her greatest adversary and is now slowly burning her alive

EXCERPT:

Son of a bitch.

I groan as I roll onto my back. I’d like to say this is the first time I’ve been knocked unconscious. I’d also like to say my boobs are the same size, but hey, such is my life.

Dirt. All I sense is that and dank heaviness that accompanies a . . . cave? Through the fog taking up residency along my brain, I make out a dim glow. It takes me a moment to realize it’s coming from my light-saber arm. I push up on my hands, grimacing when my fingers sink into the soil. Yet it’s what I see when I glance up that has me scrambling to my feet.

A lonely hand scuttles by me, chasing after a rat. Oh, but it gets better. I press my back against a dirt wall as a foot hops by, chasing after the hand, that’s chasing after the rat, with a decapitated head rolling —I shit you not—merrily behind them.

It’s like some kind of fucked up nursery rhyme. I don’t want to know the next verse, especially not with the collection of zombies gathering from all sides. These are different from the ones who pulled us onto shore. Their grisly faces are more emaciated and their bodies are in a more advance stage of decomposing. As they shuffle toward me, pieces of their skin fall in small moist clumps.

I hold out my hand. “Stay back.”

They collectively moan.

And move closer.

I grit my teeth, summoning that spark from deep in my core. The dank air seems to enclose around me, giving me a chill and snuffing out my inner heat.

Shit, shit, shit.

On wobbly legs, I slide my back against the dirt wall, my hands out. The zombies gather closer, cocking their heads, their empty sockets mesmerized by the glow of my arm. At first, I think they’re simply curious. But then their short thick tongues push forward, appearing to lick what’s left of their lips.

I jump when another hand scrambles by, its pinky brushing against my foot. My back presses against the dirt wall as I slide against it. I’m not sure where to go. I only know I can’t stay here.

I bang my fists against the wall, trying to stimulate my fire. My left hand doesn’t react, tensing uselessly. But that spark I so need triggers from my right arm, igniting flames along the path of my blue veins only to putter out.

Come on, light.

Book Blitz and Giveaway: The Snowfang Bride

Books/Writing, Giveaways 3

I’m excited to be participating in this book blitz for Merry Ravenell’s new release! I haven’t read any of her other work, but I have a soft spot for werewolf stories and this just sounds like fun. It’s available in paperback and also for e-readers. Amazon and Barnes and Noble both have the electronic version for 99 cents at the time of this writing. I bought a copy and hope to write an actual review in a few weeks! Sounds like it’s a good one to curl up with as the weather gets colder. Take a minute to enter the giveaway at the bottom, after you read the short, slightly steamy excerpt. 😉

The SnowFang Bride
Merry Ravenell
(Snowfang #1)
Publication date: October 11th 2016
Genres: Adult, Paranormal

Centuries of political games killed most of the female werewolves. Now only a few survive, and the Elders work to change the old ways of thinking.

Winter, the only daughter of the SilverPaw Alpha, finally meets the soul Gaia has chosen for her: Sterling, the cold, demanding, and entirely-too-human Alpha of the tiny SnowFang pack.

Thrust into a world of human wealth for which she was never prepared, Winter must become Sterling’s flawless wife and Luna from the moment she arrives. The city is full of threats, both werewolf and human, and Sterling’s past is full of secrets best left undisturbed.

When they are betrayed by those closest to them, Winter and Sterling embark on a dangerous game of brinkmanship that will change their lives, and the future of the werewolves, forever.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks

EXCERPT:

Sterling had been prepared to be resentful and distrustful of me, certain I was playing along with some ploy to part him from a large chunk of his wealth, or ruin him in some way. Knowing that wasn’t the case after all had to have been the final insult. Him thinking he had been bullied and played, just to find out he wasn’t even worth toying with.

Sadly, for both of us, this wasn’t as simple as me being my father’s pawn.

It would have been a hell of a lot more straightforward if I was bait, and Sterling the nice woolly sheep being led in for fleecing.

Him sleeping apart from me wouldn’t make things any better between us, or easier on the pack. It’d make things worse.

Sterling’s lips compressed a little tighter.

“I won’t make off with your virtue,” I told him.

A glint in his hazel eyes, like a knife twitching in and out of direct light. He leaned forward, his voice like a hand through my fur, “Whatever virtue I had was made off with long ago.”

A little color crept to my cheeks, my insides squirmed, but not from fear. What would those hands feel like on my skin? Rough like the scrapes and callouses on them, or gentler? Angry, perhaps. His fingers pulling through my hair, perhaps just a little too rough.

One thing at a time. Maybe I should find out how his hands got that scraped up before I let him touch me with them.

Sterling kept watching me, observing, learning my every nuance and tick, as mates—especially Alphas—will do. He came to the conclusion my body wasn’t actually on offer just yet. “You trust me to not lay a paw upon you.”

“Should I not?” I asked.

He leaned closer, his breath on my cheek, his lips very close to mine. “When I shake off the shock, Winter, I would not trust me.”

His words were like a rough caress, sending fire over my skin and a single shock through me. Desire overrode the haze of rattled anger and insult. I think I might have whispered something monosyllabic, and certainly imbecilic. It didn’t matter. He closed the final breath of distance between us, his strong body pressed mine against the wall, and kissed me.

I had never been kissed like that. Hard. Rough. Hungry.

My fingers found his shirt and jawline, one set twisting into the fabric, the other raking fingernails along his flesh, enjoying the painful bristle of his unshaven skin.

He grabbed a handful of my thigh, lifted me against him, his touch rough and everything I had never known I needed. No, not rough enough, not nearly enough. He felt so strong, so solid, so rough under those tailored human clothes.

I gathered myself and pried him back a few degrees. “Not tonight,” I breathed. “Gaia may have chosen you for me, but I want to see why.”

Giveaway – BotM: The Woman in Cabin 10

Books/Writing, Giveaways 19

Happy Monday, everyone!! Mondays are not my thing at all (are they anyone’s?), but today I’m super excited because I finally got my shit together and am ready to post another giveaway! I love giveaways. Winning them is great, of course, but I love being able to give stuff away and put some surprise happiness in another bookworm’s life.

I got a Book of the Month subscription box for August, and somehow their system goofed and sent me TWO identical boxes! When I contacted them about the error, they said to keep it or give it away. Since obviously I don’t need TWO of everything (except maybe 50 million copies of Outlander, but that’s besides the point) and wanted to pass the love along to my lovely blog readers. I appreciate every one of you that takes time to read, like, and comment – it truly makes my day! 🙂

img_3911

The box includes not only a hardcover edition of The Woman in Cabin 10 – yours will be wrapped, I substituted my copy for this pic so you could see the cover – but also a very sturdy, roomy canvas tote and a hilarious wine coozy thing. Due to outrageous international shipping costs, I’m sorry to have to make this giveaway US only. I’ll try to have another international one soon! It’s open from now until next Tuesday at midnight (Seoul time). Enter using the Rafflecopter linked below and share, share, share! Good luck!
