August 2019 New Releases

Books/Writing 0

Somehow, I only have ONE book pre-ordered for August! I did receive some ARCs of others that I’m sharing as well because I think they sound amazing (even if I haven’t *cough cough* got to read them yet).   This is just, as always, the books I have pre-ordered, it is by no means an exhaustive list of all the books being published this month…just the ones I absolutely couldn’t live without! This month seems a little light on the publishing front, but I guess that’s to be expected for summer. I’ve already been eyeing a TON of September and October books though…my bank account is going to be begging for mercy.

All covers link to GoodReads!

I’ll be reviewing most if not all these in the coming few weeks, so keep your eyes open! Any of them on your list? Any others I should add?

2019 Reading Challenges

Books/Writing 0

Eeeek! January is almost over and I still haven’t put up a post with the reading challenges I’m participating in this year. Whoops. In the beginning of the month I was busy reading – *gasp* – and then the semester started so I’ve been busy with homework and studying. BUT. I’m still here! And I am trying to play along in a few challenges. If you’re still looking for one yourself, or you’d just like to see what all is going on out there in the blogosphere, check out this amazing list of reading challenges over at Girl XOXO. Anyway, here are mine! I’m typically HORRIBLE at keeping up with these, but I always have good intentions and it’s always so exciting to jump into a new year. 🙂

As I have the last several years, I’m setting a GoodReads goal. I actually kept the number the same this year as last year, because I got SO behind last year due to school being more overwhelming than I anticipated. I only met my goal because the semester ended with two weeks of 2018 left to go, and I pretty much did nothing but read during those two weeks! 😛 So, my overall reading numbers goal is 52 books in 2019. That’s one a week. No biggie. Or so I always think…

Next is NovelKnight’s Beat the Backlist Challenge! I’ve participated in this every year since it started, even though last year I failed SPECTACULARLY. Haha. This year I do want to really focus more on reading books from previous years, especially ONES I’VE ALREADY BOUGHT. Ahem. I’m linking to my GoodReads TBR shelf as my list, because even though there are a TON more books on here than I could ever possibly read, I know that yes, every book I own is on that list. My goal is 20 backlist books.

Next, the 2019 Diversity Reading Challenge! I’m so happy that Celebrity Readers has managed to combine the two diverse book challenges I participated in for 2017 and 2018, and I’m really sad they’ve had so few people sign up. So if you’re reading this and you want to challenge yourself to read more diversely – GO SIGN UP! My goal for this one is 25 books.

And one of my favorites – a Debut Author Challenge! I’d been participating in That Artsy Reader Girl’s debut challenge, but she doesn’t seem to be doing it this year so I’m linking in with this one from Class of 2K19 Books. I will probably never remember to submit screenshots of things, but I *know* I will be reading at least a handful of debuts. My goal is 12 debut books.

Last but not least, the 2019 New Release Challenge! Hosted by (un)Conventional Bookworms. I think, like a lot of book bloggers, I read more new releases than backlist books. I wish I had more time to read more, because I think they are equally deserving of attention, but I do so love the feeling of reading a new book along with everyone else who’s been so excited about it. So my goal for this one is the same as the backlist challenge, 20 books.

What challenges are you doing this year? If you don’t do reading challenges, why not? They don’t work for everyone and I’m always curious as to what does or doesn’t work for other people.
